TEATRO ZINZANNI, Off Center Festival, Hamburg Ballet's THE LITTLE MERMAID and More Set for Segerstrom Center, Feb 2013

Segerstrom-Center-Announces-February-2013-Calendar-20010101

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts has announced its calendar of events for February 2013. Details below!

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents
Special Performance: TEATRO ZINZANNI: Love, Chaos & Dinner
October 24 - February 17, 2012 | Wednesday - Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at noon and 7 p.m.
Arts Plaza. $122.85-$211.05

Following more than a decade of triumphant success in both San Francisco and Seattle, Teatro ZinZanni comes to Segerstrom Center for the Arts with a brand new show for its Southern California premiere - Love, Chaos & Dinner. The experience, all set in a century-old Belgian Spiegeltent, the Palais Nostalgique, is a three-hour whirlwind of international cirque, comedy and cabaret all served up with a scrumptious five-course feast and elegant libations from Chef Joachim Splichal's Patina Catering. Famous for its intimate setting of 285 guests, the fast-paced action of the show unfolds above, around and even alongside you as you enjoy a gourmet dinner.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents
Off Center Festival: MOVING ARTS LA: The Car
Plays January 25 - 27 and February 1 & 2, 2013 | 3:30, 5, 7:30 and 9 p.m. performances for all dates listed except no 3:30 p.m. performance for 1/25.
Arts Plaza. $10-$20.

Truly back by popular demand, The Car Plays was a triumph at the Center's first Off Center Festival. Conceived by Paul Stein, the plays are an environmental theater event. All 15 plays are performed inside parked cars, an intimate setting all too familiar to Southern Californians. For Stein, who lives in Los Angeles, his car was a haven of solitary moments of reflection, long talks with friends, an occasional breakup and much more. Drawing on those memories, Stein collaborated with playwrights to create a new "performance model" of voyeuristic intimacy due to proximity.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents
Off Center Festival: FLEUR ELISE NOBLE: 2 Dimensional Life of Her
January 30 - February 2, 2013 | Wednesday - Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Studio Performance Space (Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall). $10-$20.

An enchanting mix of drawing, animation, puppetry, projection and paper, 2 Dimensional Life of Her is a richly imagined performance installation set in an artist's studio. Australian director/creator Fleur Elise Noble conjures a parallel world in which everything thought to be flat becomes something else. Noble's drawings begin to reproduce themselves, drifting between surfaces and moving in and out of three dimensions. In this illusionary, captivating and cheeky work, visual tensions build and realities pile up until the artist loses control of her creations and absolutely anything becomes possible.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents
Off Center Festival: MARC BAMUTHI JOSEPH/THE LIVING WORD PROJECT: Word Becomes Flesh
January 31 - February 2, 2013 | Thursday - Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
Samueli Theater. $10-$20.

Using poetry, dance and live music, a brilliant young cast presents a series of performed letters of a father to an unborn son, documenting nine months of pregnancy from a young, single father's perspective. These performed letters incorporate elements of ritual, archetypes and symbolic sites within the constructs of hip hop culture. It evolves the realm of spoken word and realizes the form's theatrical potential as the poet/dancer presents the complex contradictions involved in race, using the stage as an open page and deftly writing the body as text. Word Becomes Flesh critically, lyrically and choreographically examines the legacy of male patriarchy and privilege in a society where women continue to fight for their right to make choices about their bodies.

Pacific Symphony presents:
MOZART'S REQUIEM & MORE
January 31 - February 2, 2013 | Thursday - Saturday at 8 p.m.
Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. $25-$185.

Mozart's deathbed composition - a requiem - now enjoys iconic status as one of the most superb achievements in sacred music. Ave Verum Corpus, a piece that reflects Mozart's desire to create a higher form of church, is also included in the program. A Preview Talk with Joseph Horowitz will take place at 7 p.m., and a Music Unwound performance on Sunday, February 3 at 3 p.m. ($25-$95) presents Mozart's Requiem through multimedia and other unique enhancements to allow deeper insight, better understanding, and richer enjoyment of the concert.
