Ogunquit continues its 'high-flying' 82nd season with the American Northeast premiere of Cameron Mackintosh's THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK, a musical adaptation based on John Updike's novel and the 1987 Warner Brothers hit motion picture.
As expected (thankfully) 2012 provided Southern California audiences--specifically here in Orange County and nearby Los Angeles and San Diego--a season full of outstanding, remarkable theater offerings from touring companies, impressive regional productions, and even some tiny black box theaters. And, of course, as is the common practice during the ushering of a new year, the enjoyable past-time of putting together a year-end 'best of' list is something contributor Michael Lawrence Quintos truly looks forward to doing, especially when there's a plethora of great work to choose from--many of which he had the pleasure of reviewing exclusively for BroadwayWorld.
This holiday season, Orange County found itself playing host to two very different families that couldn't be more disparate from one another--well, at least on the surface. On this corner... LITTLE WOMEN: The Musical. In the other... THE ADDAMS FAMILY: The Musical. What do they have in common? A daughter willing to risk it all for a chance to fulfill her dreams.
That's right, new music from Tegan and Sara. Get excited because this may very well be the best output of twin sisters Quin's thirteen year career. Last week, RollingStone.com premiered 'Closer,' the lead single off Heartthrob, their forthcoming studio album set for a January 2013 release and its spread across the internet like wildfire. It's the most popular story on RollingStone.com and 'Closer' reached #1 on Hype Machine's 'Most Popular' chart. The press is all over it. 'Long story short,' says Bullett Magazine, 'Closer is the best song of the early music season.' Glamour is 'Obsessed. It's excellent, radio-ready synth-pop.' And Spin praises the girls' poppier new sound, urging people to 'think 'Mr. Brightside'-era Killers.'
